Cancer Relay For Life Kuala Lumpur 31st May -1st June 2008

NATIONAL CANCER SOCIETY OF MALAYSIA’S
RELAY FOR LIFE KUALA LUMPUR 2008
Our National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) is proud to announce the staging of its 2nd Relay For Life (RFL) Kuala Lumpur 2008. This year, RFL will be held on the weekend of World No Tobacco Day and International Cancer Survivors’ Day, May 31st – June 1st at the MSN Training Stadium, Bukit Jalil. It starts at 6.00pm on May 31st and finishes at 10.00am on June 1st (overnight event!).

On behalf of NCSM, I would like to invite all of you to this ‘one-of-a-kind’ event which joins together cancer survivors and caregivers with the general public in our fight against cancer.
The Survivors’ Lap will kick off at 6.40pm followed by teams and public participation. The symbolic and magical Luminaria Ceremony (where candles are lit to honour survivors and to remember those who have not survived) which are exclusive to RFL, will take place at 8.30pm on May 31st. It would be an honour for NCSM if you would join us to experience and participate in these two significant and poignant aspects of our RFL Kuala Lumpur 2008. I remember some of you were there with us last year and I’m sure you had a gala time then and I hope you will support us again this year!
Most often than not, the public associate cancer with suffering and death. RFL Kuala Lumpur 2008 shows the other face of cancer – determination, strength, hope and life. RFL also represents the fact that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
We would be delighted if you would consider participating in RFL. You can be involved in Relay through the following ways:-
1. Team Recruitment. We welcome teams to Relay. Registration fee is RM10 for individual participation and RM100 for a team of 10 people. A free RFL T-shirt is given upon registration. Teams can also participate in the most creatively dressed team competition.
2. Pledges. Call 03-26987300 for a pledge card and fundraise as a team to support RFL Kuala Lumpur 2008 and NCSM. All funds will be channelled towards NCSM’s support services.
3. Camping Out. As RFL is an overnight event there will be tents available for camping out. The booking fee is RM50 a tent. Why not join in the best decorated tent competition? There are attractive prizes up for grabs.
4. Luminaria Ceremony. The Luminaria Ceremony is the essence of Relay. Come and see and experience this magical and inspirational time of Relay which happens at dusk. It is a time when we honour cancer survivors and remember those lost to the disease. Luminaria Bags are sold at RM1 each. Decorate the bag, write your message of hope on it and hand it in at the Luminaria counter on May 31 and we will do the rest.
5. Games and Competitions. We encourage participation in the various games and competitions that puts the ‘fun element’ into RFL.
Incidentally, we are delighted that our Ministry of Health will be launching its own media campaign on World No Tobacco Day and participating in our RFL on May 31st.
Please visit our website http://www.cancer.org.my/ for more information on what we do at NCSM; details on our Relay For Life and to view the video of last year’s inaugural Relay. Attached also is the Programme for this years event.
In the meantime, should you require further clarification, please feel free to contact me anytime at 012-2004868/zuraidah@zuraidah.com or our Co-Chairman, Mrs Clare Ratnasingham at 012-3928855/clare@cancer.org.my

Yours sincerely

All cancer awareness projects require much resource - both planning and financial - and we shall be delighted if you wish to support RFL and NCSM in the form of a cash sponsorship or a donation anytime. We will be happy to provide a tax exempt receipt for all cash sponsorships/donation. We are humbled by any support given. Thank you.
The funds raised for RFL will be used to set up another cancer screening and resource centre in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur for the residential community (presently all our cancer screening facilities are at our Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz), upgrading of our NCSM’s existing Cancer Treatment Centre in Tung Shin Hospital and towards NCSM’s School Education Programme.
NCSM is the oldest cancer body founded in 1966 and is financed entirely by voluntary contributions from the public and receives no government funding. We run cancer screening and cancer diagnostics, nuclear medicine facilities, resource and wellness centre, children’s home of hope and cancer treatment centre. We are a non-profit charitable organisation.
Please visit http://www.cancer.org.my/ and join us in all our cancer awareness programmes!

Let's Help Myanmmar!
Also if they need material items, eg tarps, food, medicine, etc. then maybe can check through the alumni network for assistance on logistics?
Artice on behalf of Juna, 39th Batch.
Editor comment: I read this article yesterday related to Juna's idea, but it is a concern that we have to think about when sending our donation. Sure makes it even harder to help out.
Jejak Kasih versi IATSSmy
Dear IATSS Forum Alumni members,There is a "6-degree of separation" theory that anyone on this earth can contact or make personal appointment with any other person on any part of the world by asking 6 levels of a friend of a friend of a friend etc. Majority of people can be contacted by asking up to 3-levels. Since we now have so many IATSS Forum alumni members, I would like to try this out.......
The following 17 MALAYSIAN IATSS Forum Alumni members have been "missing" for over 15 to 22 years. Their former batch team members have lost contact with them and do not have their tel or address. If ANY of you have met them in the course of your work, social interaction or government projects etc., please let me know their tel. no (H, O or HP) or address (office or house), so we can contact them again:
